Help for Haiti

After trying to make a donationd via the Red Cross website and having a hard time getting through as the site is so busy, I found an easier way to make a donation here the White Houses Twitter site. You can make a $10.00 donation to the Red Cross just by texting the word Haiti to 90999 it will be added to your phone bill. After you send the text you will receive a response that asks you to text "Yes" to confirm your donation or "Help" if you need help. Luckily, if you are reading this you are probably not in need of help. If you do know anyone who has family or friends that have been affected by the earthquake this may be valuable information so please pass it along.

If you are on Twitter please go to the link above and "retweet" the link to donate. Think about adding this link to your facebook page or blog if you have one. The average Haitian lives on $2.00 a day so any monetary donation is appreciated.

Please keep the Haitian people in your thoughts and prayers. If you know of any other ways to help please leave the information in a comment on this post and I will make sure it is passed along to all Libby' World readers.

organic, hot and "free"

organic, hot and "free", originally uploaded by penwren.

Today's post is thanks to a flickr contact called Penwren. I am trying to track down more information about this elusive Brit. I would love to do an interview. Penwren hails from Brighton, Sussex in the UK. Why is it all of the flickr people I stumble upon and fall in love with seem to be English? Am I really that homesick for my beloved Snailwell?
Penwren has a great sense of color and a wonderful sense of humor as you can tell from this snap.

Thanks Penwren for the much needed color inspiration! If by some chance you are reading this please get in contact so my readers can find out more about you!

I love these soft colors.

cheep, originally uploaded by penwren.

They are so subltle, so quiet. I think that I want to bring these colors into my home in bigger doses hoping those qualities will rub off on my family and myself. When I try, they get lost in fray. I just have to appreciate them in other's homes and photos and stick with what calls to me.....

Getting warmer!

That's more like it!

Heat

I Love these colors. They give off heat, I am drawn to them like a moth. I try and try to deviate but they always lure me back.

I love these colors

April afternoon, originally uploaded by penwren.

I so wanted to use more purples, blues and pinks when painting our home this time. However after a few paint swatches went up on the wall I realized I need to use them in small doses to punch up the oranges, reds and yellows I love so much. Yet, when I look at this photo.....

I love the punch of green with all of these different oranges.

I love the possibility of a freshly sharpened pencil. It is similar to a freshly painted room, you can consider all of the images to be created and lived waiting to emerge.

When I feel overwhelmed with all of this painting and moving, I dream about loading everyone up and heading down to New Zealand to visit our friends Claire and Gerard (yes, C & G that is a threat!) . The adventure of a land unvisited calls to me. Besides, it is summer there now!

motherhood

motherhood, originally uploaded by fede shop.

You all know by now this has become my motto over the past six months. I love that 'fede shop' on flicker used the caption "Motherhood" in association with this photo. I find it seems to apply to so many situations! By the way, I am now stalking 'fede shop' on flickr. You should check them out! It's summer in Austrailia, which is where they live and I think we could all use a little warm up right about now!

Love the Green!

I'm not sure what I like the best about this, the boots or the fact that there is a big "E" for Elizabeth in the lower right hand corner!

A Few Things to Get You in the Mood!

12/19 snow - tree/light series, originally uploaded by karma1221.

With all of the snow on the ground who isn't in the Christmas spirit? I am so excited to have one of my only white Christmases ever. Even if your holiday doesn't involve snow--scroll on and get in the mood for the big day!

Take Just a Moment Today and Prepare

or cake?, originally uploaded by penwren.

I love the days before and after Christmas almost more than the day itself. The hurried secret activities that populate Christmas eve are full of excitement and apprehension. The day after is like a good nap after a rich meal. There is a sense of a job well done, an excuse to rest while feeling satisfied.
So today, on this busiest of days, don't forget to take a moment and breathe in the holiday. Take a moment of quiet contemplation and prepare for the madness of the day tomorrow. Then, jump in and revel in the festivities!

Waiting with baited breath for the.......

I stumbled on this artist and wanted to share her work with you. I love her whimsical eye and mixed media approach.

We have been doing a lot of this at our house.

For some reason, sledding always ends up in tears for Jane.
She just came in from the third day of sledding screaming and crying in tears. Is it the holidays? Or exhaustion? Or her sisters coming home from college? I wish I knew. I want sledding minus tears!

Happy Tuesday before Christmas!

This was about six hours ago and it has done nothing but snow since! We LOVE it! we have been walking and sleding and drinking and cooking and oh yeah, hanging curtains. The only bummer is the holiday parties we are snowed in from! I guess we just have to have our own. Phase 10 anyone?

Disjointed

My Latest Acquisition, originally uploaded by blamstur.

As I blog today I am feeling very scattered. I like to sit down with a focus in mind. Something I want to share, or something I am feeling inspired by. Today I am fighting "monkey mind" I am all over. I am wandering through travel photos and christmas photos and thinking "I really need to get the car inspected, go to Lowe's, hang my curtains, check my e-mail, Christmas shop and address my cards" . I am trying to think of all of those thoughts coming together beautifully in my brain the way the colors come together in a witching ball. As I am obsessed in a good way with these beautiful glass balls that I have hunted down across the world, I need to obesess about my to do list in a good way. Look at it, notice each thing/color for the beauty it holds and appreciate the fact that I have the ability to do/look at, it. I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe it is the impending storm, but I don't really mind! I'm off to get my car inspected and buy bread and milk on the way to Lowe's!

Little Monks Taking Their Lunch

Little Monks Taking Their Lunch, originally uploaded by suninkaz.

Why can't my children eat like this? Where did I go wrong? Should I have shaved their heads and convinced them they were monks at an early age? If I HAD sent them to live as monks they may have come back quiet, well behaved girls. Is it too late? They do look good in orange.

My Moving Break is Over!

This is a quick pic of Jim and I in Northern Virginia. It is a little colder here than in Goldsboro!
No, I wish I could take credidt for these fab snow people, but they are the work of my English alter ego, snailtrail. I am left to wonder if since snailtrail specializes in vintage camper hire if the snow couple could possibly be standing outside of an airstream? Hmmmm......

Graffiti Artist?

poppy%20close, originally uploaded by Libby's World.

No - I am not out tagging by moonlight. I was asked to paint a chair and side table for the arts council MONTHS ago and of course I managed to put it of until the week I am moving.

I have been toying with ideas of what to do with this chair. It will eventually be auctioned off and placed somewhere around town (like the cow thing in NY a few years back). I had a million fabulous ideas but in the end it came down to having lots of spray paint to get rid of. The movers can't pack paint and I hate to let anything go to waste. Behold---the spray painted poppy chair!

Starting bid is?

All in all I had a good morning waiting for the movers and praying it wouldn't rain. I should have done this months ago, but it's done now and as we all know - a little procrastination never hurt anyone!

Seperated at Birth?

WTJ2: Shower Time, originally uploaded by Lost Star.

OK, Lost Star, I think you may be me, two of my favorite things in this photo and one more below confirm it. Wreck this journal is a fabulous excercise book that gets you to do things like literally take it in the shower with you or draw a picture with coffee or chewing gum. And look what is parked right next to the book. Could that be LUSH? Be still my heart!!

These are my favorite pens in the world! When we lived in Germany, they sold them at the Spar (like a 7-11) in our village. One year for my birthday the girls got me every color of the rainbow. Seven years later some of them are still going strong! Who knew I had a fellow fan on Flickr!

Welcome to Bradstreet! For a rollicking good time check out Amy's blog at http://www.onbradstreet.blogspot.com/  I have loved peeking around her house on flickr and she was kind enough to share her photos with us. I love the way she uses color and revamped items to create a one of a kind home for her family. Take a peek inside and don't forget to visit Amy at her blog!

I want to curl up like a cat in the sun on this couch. I love tables that are a little higher like this as a coffee table. They are great for entertaining and can be more of a gathering place for games and snacks than a lower table. I love the mix of pillows, if only my dogs wouldn't think they were beds we would be set!
